Who wrote wild mountain thyme12/30/2023 ![]() its the story about the farmgirl that wants a husband, and the eextremely shy neighbour farmboy who really wants a wife, but thinks he is a honeybee, and asks the donkey if it wants to marry him, because he wont inherit the farm from his dad if he aint getting married. In a while the shamrock hits hard and out comes a green emerald looking romantic irish movie, that will, if you have some grace of god and some common sense, will make you laugh and cry either you will or not. Absolutely gorgeous, totally memorable viewing all round. Dornan is pretty awesome here, fleshing out a shy, reserved, scared male without a shred if vanity and machismo. Both are far greater actors than that rubbish allowed them to be. The stupidity of that material totally undersold both Dornan and Dakota Johnson. ![]() I only ever saw the first if the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy, more out of curiosity than anything. The acting is superb all round, with Emily Blunt and Christopher Walken absolutely smouldering and scintillating in turns. All through the movie the rain soaked and overcast and lush green Irish landscape matches the troubled emotions of the characters, and when these emotions are resolved the sun shines through the wet and glistening landscape in a note of brightness and happiness. Doesn't that count? The cinematography is gorgeous. ![]() Who cares? It's a beautiful human story told brilliantly on the screen. Why are critics not saying anything about these narrative and dramatic complexities? Are these complexities beyond their cliched critical imaginations? And more blather about that old hoary chestnut "genre": is it a rom com? Is it a comedy? LOL Sheesh! Such nitpicking over cinematic scraps and not much said about the brilliant acting all round, the quirky original script, the gorgeous love story at the centre of it, the motifs of weather (remember the Bronte sisters and their use of weather as a setting for human emotions and circumstances?) and childhood dreams, and Rosemary flying from Ireland to New York for a single day just to watch her Swan Lake ballet dream. So much critical blather spent on the dodgy Irish accents put on by everybody here except Jamie Dornan who's Irish, but even he was found to be from the wrong part of Ireland. Cos that's what kind of a movie this is, one you feel as you watch. This movie is beyond their capacity to feel it. At home on DVD from our public library.įorget the emotionally sclerotic critics. My wife and I found the movie to be better and more entertaining than its IMDb rating might suggest. The movie is filled with Irish humor and the characters are all interesting. Now that the old parents of each of them are expiring they need to figure out what to do with the farms, and whether their lifelong friendship might turn into a marriage. But Rosemary is very persistent and headstrong. We learn that Rosemary has had a lifelong desire to be with Anthony but he has a series interpersonal issue, he has a low self-esteem and seems almost incapable of overcoming it. As we eventually see them as adults, they are played by Emily Blunt and Jamie Dornan. It is a story about Rosemary and Anthony, we see them first as children of two different families living and working on adjacent farms. It is set and filmed in rural Ireland and the scenery is beautiful. There is an old Irish song "Will Ye Go Lassie Go" and within the lyrics is the phrase "The wild mountain thyme Grows around the bloomin' heather." That is the derivation of the title of the movie. Once you watch the movie, this will all make perfect sense to you I couldn't make sense of it myself throughout the movie, until the last scenes. Their parents who tried everything to make the couple realize their destiny needed fulfilling, succeeded, but it was beyond their grave they did. an ultimatum by the Irish lass who at one point considered having her eggs frozen. ![]() "What the heck are they waiting for?" The good news is they eventually find what it was they needed. The whole families, friends and neighbours all wonder. A terrible waste of time in anyone's life, that they haven't. A young boy and girl grow up neighbours, friends and more, and the only thing they aren't is lovers. It wouldn't matter to the characters to be sure, and it certainly doesn't matter to me. I don't know what pejorative insensitive word they'd use, but it doesn't matter. Today's social media generation would dismiss the movie as.
